Healing unfolds in the presence of an empathetic witness
With over 25 years of experience supporting individuals and couples — alongside my own lived experience of healing trauma and grief — I create a space that is calm, safe, and compassionate.
My approach is warm, grounded, and highly personalised. Together we move at a pace that feels safe, gradual, and meaningful, through insight, compassion, and the small, steady steps that resonate with you.
Healing is not about fixing you. It is about reconnecting with your inherent worth and strength.
An integrative approach,
shaped around you
At Empatherapies, I draw on a range of evidence-based modalities so the work we do together can move at the pace, and reach the depth, that is right for you.
In our work together, I integrate:
- Attachment-informed therapy
- Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Neuropsychotherapy
- Mindfulness-based therapy
- Somatic therapy
- Hypnotherapy
- Buddhist & Yogic philosophy
Together this lets us work gently with the wisdom in the body, the patterns of belief and behaviour, and the feelings underneath that are longing to be understood.
A space that feels safe
The relationship comes first. Before any deeper work, there is a calm, compassionate space where you can be honest about what you are carrying — and feel met in it.
Understanding the patterns
Together we look gently at the patterns of belief, behaviour and relationship that have shaped you, and the feelings underneath that are asking to be heard.
Reshaping what no longer serves
Within the safety of the therapeutic relationship, deeply held beliefs and patterns can be gently rescripted — making space for clarity, resilience and joy.
What clients say
Sabine has been an amazing support system for myself and husband and we are so blessed to have her for marriage counselling. I continually feel seen and heard but most importantly safe during our sessions. Sabine is not biased and has given us fantastic coping skills to effectively work through our issues.
Sabine played a very important role in helping me navigate the darkness after loss. She's kind, nurturing and human and above all, professional. Thank you for showing me the way.
I have seen Sabine when I have needed support on and off over the past 12 years. Sabine offers support that is always broad, intuitive and nurturing. She has the ability to hold space while enquiring about important themes or topics to expand my self awareness and learning. Hands on heart five stars from me.

Things people often ask before reaching out
If you are considering counselling for the first time, or returning to it after a break, you may have questions.
Here are the ones I'm asked most often.
What can I expect from a first session at Empatherapies?
Your first session is a 60-minute conversation in which we begin to understand what has brought you here, what you are carrying, and what you are hoping for. There is no script. We move at a pace that feels safe and manageable for you. By the end of the session, you will have a clearer sense of how I work and whether the fit feels right.
Do you offer telehealth counselling, or is it only in-person in Buderim?
Both. I see clients in person at my Buderim practice on the Sunshine Coast, and I also offer telehealth sessions — by video or phone — for clients across Australia and New Zealand. Some people prefer the face-to-face connection of video; others find a phone session easier to fit into their day or simply more comfortable. Both are equally effective for the work we do, and many clients value the continuity of meeting from home.
What therapeutic approaches do you use?
My approach is integrative. I draw on attachment-informed therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), neuropsychotherapy, mindfulness-based therapy, gestalt therapy, somatic therapy and hypnotherapy, alongside the wisdom traditions of Buddhist and Yogic philosophy. The combination we use depends on what you bring and what is most likely to help — there is no one-size-fits-all method.
How long does counselling usually take?
This varies. Some clients come for a focused piece of work over six to eight sessions. Others stay longer, particularly when we are working with attachment wounds, complex grief or unresolved trauma. Lasting change unfolds gradually, and we will reassess together as the work progresses. You are never locked into a fixed number of sessions.
Do you work with couples as well as individuals?
Yes. I see individuals, couples, and parents working to align their parenting styles. Couples work uses elements of attachment-based and emotionally focused approaches to help you understand the patterns between you and rebuild safe, attuned connection.
How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?
The therapeutic relationship matters more than any particular technique. That is why I offer a complimentary 15-minute connection call before you book a first session — a no-pressure conversation in which we can both sense whether the fit feels right. If it does, you can book in. If it does not, I am happy to point you toward other practitioners.

Reaching out for support takes courage, and it is often the beginning of meaningful change. The therapeutic relationship matters, so I offer a complimentary 15-minute connection call so we can both sense whether we are the right fit.
