Individual Counselling

A space to understand what you’re carrying.

Compassionate, integrative individual counselling at Empatherapies in Buderim, on the Sunshine Coast, and online across Australia and New Zealand. Whether you are navigating anxiety, burnout, grief, unresolved trauma, or a difficult life transition, the work we do here is about understanding what is keeping you stuck — and finding a way through that feels true to you.

Where this work helps most

These are the threads I work with most often. None of them is best met with a quick fix or a five-step plan. Each one asks for slow, attentive, well-resourced therapeutic work — the kind that lets the deeper layers settle, not just the surface.

Anxiety & chronic overwhelm

For the over-functioning nervous system shaped by chronic stress — racing thoughts, sleep disruption, and a body that struggles to shift out of “on” into rest, relaxation, and repair.

Grief & loss

For the loss of a person, a relationship, a body that worked, a future you’d planned for. Grief is not a disorder; it is a tender, necessary response that needs holding, not fixing.

Burnout & depletion

For the slow erosion that happens when you have given more than you have for too long. The work is not just to rest, but to understand why rest has felt unsafe.

Trauma & attachment wounds

For old experiences whose shape is still organising your present. We work with both the story and the body, gently and at a pace your nervous system can tolerate.

Life transitions

Separation, illness, parenting, retirement, a career that no longer fits. The threshold between who you were and who you are becoming is a real place — and a worthwhile one to be accompanied through.

Self-worth & inner criticism

For the inner voice that has long stopped being kind. We trace where that voice came from, and we begin the slow work of softening it.

Perimenopause & menopause

For the emotional, identity and relational changes that arrive alongside the hormonal ones. Often a tender, under-supported passage that benefits from being witnessed.

Disconnection & loss of meaning

For the quiet sense that something essential has gone missing — from your work, your body, your relationships, your sense of who you are.

Three lineages, woven into one practice

My work sits at the meeting place of three traditions: contemplative wisdom, contemporary neuroscience, and modern psychotherapy. None of them, on its own, is enough. Together, they let us work with the mind, the body, and the deeper patterns that run underneath both — at the pace your nervous system can tolerate.

My individual practice draws on:

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy
  • Attachment-informed therapy
  • Somatic & embodied awareness
  • Mindfulness-based approaches
  • Clinical hypnotherapy

Slow, attuned, relational

The relationship between us is the ground the work is built on. We move at a pace that respects your nervous system, not a textbook timeline. This is tender work — and it deserves to be done tenderly.

Body as well as mind

The patterns that shape our lives often live below the level of language — in the body, in old reflexes, in procedural memory. We work with both story and somatic awareness, so insight has somewhere to land.

Evidence-based and human

The frameworks I use are grounded in decades of psychological research — and held inside a deeply human conversation. Theory should serve the person in front of me, not the other way around.

A gentle path forward

The first contact with a therapist is often the hardest part. Here is what to expect, so the unknown becomes a little more known before you arrive.

  1. 01

    A free 15-minute connection call

A short, no-cost phone call so you can hear my voice, ask any questions, and feel out whether we might be a good fit. There is no expectation to book afterwards — fit matters, and this is a gentle way to test it.

  2. 02

    Your first session

A 60-minute session — sometimes a little longer for the first one — where we make space for what brings you here, your history, and the shape of the work we might do together. By the end you will have a clearer sense of what to expect, and so will I.

  3. 03

    Ongoing sessions, at your pace

Most clients begin weekly so we can build trust and momentum, then move to fortnightly as things settle. Some people come for a handful of sessions; others stay for months or years. We’ll find a rhythm that fits your life and your nervous system.
